You've got to hand it to Jimmy Buffett - he created the perfect party blueprint with his music. Let's host the perfect Parrothead Party and take guests to Margaritaville!

If you're familiar with Jimmy Buffett's music - even just a few of his hits - you can already picture how fun this will be! Margaritas, cheeseburgers (in paradise), flip flops, sunglasses. It's truly a summer party served up in a playlist.
Parrothead parties carry a laid back, Key West vibe. Keep the colors bright and eye-popping and the food fresh, cool and easy. And don't forget to plan your soundtrack - it's the element that pulls it all together.
Party theme: Parrothead Party
Best for: Summertime parties, pool parties, neighborhood events, outdoor events, summer birthday parties
Food and Drink Ideas:

Cheeseburger sliders:
Inspired by his classic "Cheeseburger in Paradise," this mini-version is perfect for larger crowds and evening events. Easy to make or grill for a crowd, everyone will be singing along while grabbing a few of these to nosh on during the party.
Include a variety of condiments, including fresh options like lettuce, sliced onion and tomatoes. Don't forget the Heintz 57!
You can also make full-size burgers for a lunch or dinner party.
Keep the burgers simple with light seasonings.
Finally - don't forget french fries! Make plenty of large batches - they will go fast and are a crowd favorite. Mix up a spicy aioli for a tasty alternative to ketchup guests will love.

Fresh fruit watermelon basket:
Talk about summertime goodness - a watermelon basket make a fresh statement on an appetizer or buffet table, and add natural, bright color to the party.
It takes a bit of time to carve out the watermelon and scoop out the fruit in bite-sized pieces, so plan the time prepare this.
Get creative with scallops or other edging.
Fill it up with your favorite summer fruits - pineapple, cantaloupe, blueberries and honeydew will be in season during the summer and are oh-so-tasty!

Don't forget dessert! Two fresh favorites
Looking for a fresh, tart dessert to serve?
Key Lime Pie is the dessert that ties it all together. Whether you serve Key Lime pie or you make it in bite-size form, this is a cool crowd-pleaser.
I love the easy, no-bake recipes that keep your oven off during the summer months, like this No Bake Mini Key Lime Pie recipe.
While Key Lime is the logical go-to, I also love the No Bake Orange Creamsicle Mini Cheesecake for a Parrothead party. How can you go wrong with bright orange notes and color, and the cool creaminess of cheesecake? Make ahead and freeze if needed, giving you some time in your party plan.

Margarita Bar
You simply cannot host a Parrothead party without margaritas. It may actually be a misdemeanor if you do so. But seriously, this will be a focal point of your event and may be one element that takes a bit of planning. Check out my full blog post about creating an incredible Self-Serve Margarita Bar!
If you're looking for margarita inspiration, here are my three favorites:

Spicy Margarita
The combination of lime, salt, tequila and jalapeño is surprisingly refreshing, even on a hot day. And I love adding a couple of jalapeño slices to my glass to enhance the flavor. It's one of the reasons I grow them in the summer!

Strawberry Margarita
Strawberry syrup gives this margarita a bright finish and summertime sweetness. Using a light margarita mix - or making it with less sugar - means taking advantage of the fruit's sweetness to achieve the perfect balance.

Mango Margarita
This tropical twist is a favorite. Make sure your mangos are ripe to get the most flavor. when making your syrup. The color this brings to a margarita is gorgeous, and so yummy! Try a Tajin rim for a sweet and spicy drink profile.
Make it Fun and Engaging!

Dress the Part
This is an easy, but important part of your party. Encourage guests to wear their 'very best parrothead attire' for your event. Now here in Cincinnati, everyone knows exactly what that looks like. But if your guests need some additional direction, include the following suggestions:
Hawaiian shirts are the first on the list - the louder, the better!
Straw hats and flip flops are perfect for the vibe.
Other suggestions - leis, tropical shorts, and crazy sunglasses.
To up the ante, include a 'Best ParrotHead' contest, and let people know there will be prizes. Communicate this in your invitation.
Have slips of paper and a box or bowl handy for everyone to vote for their favorite look. And don't forget the prizes! This could include a bottle of tequila or margarita-ingredient basket, a silly trophy or medal, or a parrot. Just kidding about the parrot - but a stuffed toy parrot would be pretty great.
Tip: Make a crazy, over-the-top trophy for the best parrothead look. This celebrates the guest(s) who embraced the theme and brings your guests together to cheer each other on.
It may be too early to know now, but this could turn into an annual event! Your 'Best Parrothead' award could be the honor friends work to earn every year!

Flip Flop Hoop Toss
Cornhole is the 'official', unofficial game of the backyard party. But this isn't just any ordinary backyard party, is it? Grab a few inexpensive items to bring a party-themed spin on the classic cornhole game!
Buy four plastic hula hoops and four pairs of cheap flip flops - keep the color scheme similar to that of cornhole bean bags (i.e., two pairs of pink, two pairs of green.).
Place two hula hoops side-by-side and touching at each end of the yard. Tape them together. Place two pairs of flip flops at each end.
TIP: test out how easy it is to toss the flip flops. Lighter ones may mean you need bring the hoops a bit closer together. Make it challenging, but not impossible!
Played like cornhole, either 2 or 4 people can play. Players stand at either end (for 4 people, one team member at each end), and each takes turns tossing the flip flop.
Scoring is similar to cornhole; play to 15 or 21:
flip flop that lands anywhere on the hoop = 1 point
flip flop that land totally inside the hoop (not touching the hoop) = 2 points
flip flop that lands on the spot where the two hoops are touching = 3 points
Host the "Flip Flop Tournament of Champions" to get all your guests involved!
Create the Vibe with Your Music and Decor!
Setting the tone for this party is a breeze - you can take it in a LOT of different directions. Here are a few that are sure to wow your guests!
For the Music, Two Words: Jimmy Buffett
Not a lot to say here - curating a Jimmy Buffett soundtrack is easy. With so many hits, you'll have plenty of songs to take you through the day and evening!
If you're a Spotify fan, "Happy Hour Beach Music" is a perfect option that includes Jimmy Buffet, Jack Johnson, Kenny Chesney and others.
For Sirius XM users, choose "Radio Margaritaville" (Channel 24) for your party soundtrack.

Lots and lots and LOTS of leis
This is the decor that keeps on giving!
Welcome your guests to your Parrothead Party with a lei on their arrival.
String them together as garland or to decorate a table (you can also buy it as garland, too).
Use them on buffet and dessert tables to add color.
For an evening party, provide light-up leis! Imagine guests in the back yard under the stars, with twinkling, sparkling color. They're versatile and fun, and can be used for years to come with some simple care in storing.

Parrots, parrots everywhere
It just takes a few hanging parrot decorations with their bold colors to set the scene.
Hang these decorations over the food table, from an outdoor overhang or on your margarita bar.
You can also find easy, simple parrot centerpieces to place around your space. Other tropical birds like toucans or pink flamingos work well, too!
Oriental Trading has some of my favorite parrot decorations, including tablecloths and garlands for the occasion. A few to check out:
Again - with some care in setting up and storing, you can use these over and over again.

Beach Balls for the Win
Adding lots of beach balls is perfect for a pool party, but you can use these for any backyard our outdoor space.
Get a wide variety of sizes and colors to really make a statement!
Purchase a set of the small-sized beach balls - they look great on your bar, food and dessert tables and other dining areas, without taking up a lot of space.
The other great thing about beach balls - no one can resist picking them up and batting them around! Your decor also turns into fun interactions with guests and a way to engage and entertain.
