Margaritas are summertime, cool breezes and parties in a glass. Whether with a delicious authentic Mexican meal, by the pool, or on the patio, margaritas just make you happy. With that sunny mix of tequila, triple sec, and citrus flavors, plus a touch of salty - or sweet - on the rim, who can resist?

Homemade Sweet and Sour Cocktail Mix

Lemons, limes and sugar to make sweet and sour cocktail mix
Be sure to use fresh lemons and limes for a juicy burst of citrus flavor

Ingredients (makes 3 - 4 margaritas)

Double or triple this recipe for a larger crowd

  • 1/2 cup water

  • 1/2 cup sugar

  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice

  • 1/2 cup fresh lime juice

How to Prepare

  1. Add the sugar and water to a small saucepan. Bring to a boil until the sugar dissolves. Set aside. (This is your simple syrup.)

  2. When the simple syrup has cooled, add it to a mason jar or bottle, along with the lemon and lime juice.

  3. Shake well, and refrigerate.

This should last 1 - 2 weeks in the fridge. Write the date you made it on the container.


Strawberry Syrup

Gorgeous strawberries create an incredible syrup for cocktails, mocktails and teas

Because you blend the strawberries with the simple syrup, this will make a full 2+ cup batch

Ingredients (serving size varies)

  • 1 cup water

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 8 oz fresh sliced strawberries (about 1.5 cups)


How to Prepare

  1. Add the sugar, water and strawberries to a small saucepan. Bring to a boil until the sugar dissolves.

  2. Turn the heat down to simmer; simmer for 20 minutes.

  3. Remove from heat and let it cool about 10 - 15 minutes.

  4. Using an immersion blender, blend the strawberry mixture thoroughly.

  5. Strain the syrup through a fine mesh strainer, into a mason jar or bottle, and refrigerate.

This should last 1 - 2 weeks in the fridge. Write the date you made it on the container.


Jalapeno peppers for a cocktail
Heat up your margarita with this spicy jalapeno syrup!

Jalapeno Syrup

A little goes a long way! But double the recipe if needed)

Ingredients (serving size varies)

  • 1/2 cup water

  • 1/2 cup sugar

  • 1 jalapeno pepper, sliced

    • Remove the seeds for less 'heat'

How to Prepare

  1. Add the sugar, water and jalapenos to a small saucepan. Bring to a boil until the sugar dissolves.

  2. Turn the heat down to simmer; simmer for 15 minutes.

    1. Turn on your stove vent, especially if you've kept the seeds in the syrup!

  3. Remove from heat and let it cool about 10 - 15 minutes

  4. Pour the mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a mason jar or bottle to store.

    1. You can discard the jalapenos.

This should last 1 - 2 weeks in the fridge. Write the date you made it on the container.


Mango and other fruit

Mango Syrup


Ingredients (serving size varies)

  • 1 cup water

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1 cup diced mango

How to Prepare

  1. Add the sugar, water and mango to a small saucepan. Bring to a boil until the sugar dissolves.

  2. Turn the heat down to simmer; simmer for 15 - 20 minutes.

  3. Remove from heat and let it cool about 10 - 15 minutes.

  4. Pour the mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a mason jar or bottle to store. USING A SPATULA, press the mango through the strainer to release as much of the juice as possible.

This should last 1 - 2 weeks in the fridge. Write the date you made it on the container.
