It's cold. It's snowy. And that groundhog saw his shadow. Instead of hiding under a blanket for another six weeks, how about hosting a cozy, super-easy get-together!

I know - January was hard. Stressful, cold, and snowy is the general description for the first month of 2026. And now it's February - not much has changed.
You want to hibernate, and I completely understand. But this may be the best time to lift your spirits and create time to connect with family and friends - while still keeping it SIMPLE. That's why I'm not even calling it a party. Let's host a cozy get-together to warm hearts and bring some happiness back!
Get-Together Theme: Cozy Evening In
Best for: The coldest months of the year
About These Options
These ideas are low-effort - you can be ready to host in 24 hours. I'm talking one trip to the store, everyone pitches in, and no decorations or fancy serveware is necessary. This is all about genuine, no-stress connection for everyone - including you!

Option One: Game Night
Everyone has at least a couple of games in their closet, right? (I think we have at least 30!) Game Nights are easy to communicate, set up and then clean up. A few considerations:
Choose easy snacks and appetizers, and ask guests to bring a favorite. People will get up and move around between games, so food should be low-fuss and self-serve.
Supply the games, or ask guests to bring a favorite.
Ask guests to bring their own drinks, or have beer and wine available.
If you have enough people, set up game stations. Switch up the game tables throughout the night.

Option Two: Build Your Own Pizza Night
When our kids were younger, this was a favorite Friday night activity. It's also an
easy, interactive way to entertain guests while serving a delicious dinner.
Buy pre-made crusts (like Boboli) or refrigerated pizza crusts, or pick up dough from your local pizza parlor (call ahead to confirm they offer it). Individual crusts are perfect for guests to make their own creation, or pair up in teams to make large pizzas to share.
Have lots of fresh pizza toppings. Don't forget the pineapple! (Hey, some people like it!)
Round out the meal by asking guests to bring a fresh tossed salad, bread sticks, a sweet treat, and drinks.
Play games after everyone has eaten!

Option Three: Cheese (or Chocolate) Fondue
While you can host dinner-style fondue (meats, veggies, etc.), keep it simple with a cheese or a chocolate fondue course. The fun is in gathering around the fondue pot and enjoying the 'dipping' while engaging in great conversation. This is perfect for an evening get-together with a few friends.
Have a vegetable tray and a light appetizers for guests. You may ask guests to contribute these items.
Communicate it's a cheese or chocolate fondue evening, so guests know it's not dinner.
Don't have a fondue pot? A crock pot works well, too! Have skewers long enough for guests to safely dip into the pot.

Option Four: DoorDash Roulette
My neighbor is hosting DoorDash Roulette this weekend, and I can't wait! It doesn't get much easier than this. All guests need is their favorite drinks and their phone! Simply set a spending range for a DoorDash order (anywhere from $30 - $50). When all guests are present, they submit their order to their favorite restaurant. When food arrives, It's set out to share - instant, eclectic buffet!
Communicate the spending range and the request to keep their restaurant a secret - half the fun is seeing what everyone ordered!
Hit the order button at the same time so food shows up at about the same time.
Take a video of guests picking up their order at the front door. It makes a fabulous reel!
Extras to Warm Your Guests
While these options are designed to be quick and simple, you may want to take it to the next level. Here are some 'extras' for your get-together to surprise and delight!
Hot Chocolate Bar: A hot chocolate bar is a tasty option for a cozy winter get-together!
To make a large batch for guests, consider crock pot hot chocolate. Rich, creamy and smells heavenly!
Include add-ins such as whipped cream, candy canes, and lots of mini-marshmallows!
If you're hosting for adults, you can't go wrong with Bailey's, Frangelico, Creme de Menthe, and bourbon to make it a little boozy.

Hot Sauce Sampler: "Hot Ones" is on fire right now! (Pun totally intended.) And for guests
who 'like it hot,' creating a hot sauce sampling station will definitely bring the heat.
Ask each guest to bring their favorite or most unique hot sauce(s).
Bake up a batch of chicken wings, boneless wings, or simply have plain crackers for each guest to sample.
Provide milk and ice water to your 'tasting station' to cool things off.
Socks, Gloves and Used Coats Collection: Nothing warms the heart like giving back. And even if it's a donation of just a few pairs of socks, gloves or used coats, it's all needed and appreciated.
Ask guests if they have gently used coats, or ask them to pick up warm socks and gloves to donate.
To have some fun with it, string a clothesline in your living space, and display the donations. It's a simple but powerful way to join together to help others.
Final Thoughts on a Cozy Winter Get-Together
The options above are pretty simple. That's by design. Because when it's cold and awful out, we need to find simple ways of connecting to keep spirits bright, and spend time with family and friends.
But I'm still mad at that groundhog.
